WikiReadia
A searchable, editable good practice guide to reading
WikiReadia is a searchable and editable online encyclopaedia of good practice in reading. As reading is a huge field the number of articles and topics is potentially huge and this is a chance to gather together and share good practice in reading for all audiences (whether that is young children, adult learners, readers in the workplace or setting up a library the list is almost endless).
WikiReadia will be as useful and as informative as you make it. It is up to you to contribute articles as well as finding information on good practice.
Collaboration
WikiReadia is written collaboratively by reading professionals from all across the UK and beyond. Its purpose it to provide a place where good practice in reading is recognised and shared to provide inspiration.
As with anything collaborative WikiReadia will be successful only if people take a little of their time to share their good practice case studies as well as searching for case studies to inspire them.
A Partnership
WikiReadia’s articles provide links to guide the user to related pages with additional information. Visitors need no specific qualification to contribute as their primary role is to write articles that cover existing knowledge about reading and the teaching of reading to different audiences.
Who is WikiReadia for?
Anyone is welcome to add information, cross-references or citations, as long as they do so within the WikiReadia rules and to an appropriate standard. For example, if you add information to an article, be sure to include your references, as unreferenced facts are likely to be removed by the National Year of Reading Web Editor.
Teachers and teaching assistants, Librarians,Publishers, Businesses and Parents may want to use WikiReadia for different purposes, (click on the one you're most interested in to find out more.)
Easy to repair, impossible to damage
There is no need to worry about accidentally damaging WikiReadia when adding or improving information, as the programme running the wiki, known as MediaWiki, is carefully designed to allow easy reversal of editorial mistakes.
How can you get involved?
WikiReadia is constantly being updated and added to and we would love to have you contribute your good practice and case studies to keep this site alive and full of the best good practice in the reading sphere.
If you have not done so, we invite you to take a few moments to read What WikiReadia is (and is not), so that you have an understanding of how to consult or contribute to WikiReadia. Further information can be found in our Frequently asked questions page.
